Getting Listed in the Search Engines

So today I wanted to check my google rankings for certain keywords in my “Do It Yourself Frigidaire Washing Machine Repair” post.  Now it doesn’t say much because they are long tail but I did get a good ranking for a 3 word search.

For the average SEO consultant this is not really anything to brag about but for myself a do it yourself tester I was proud of the outcome.

Here are the phrases I looked for:

Frigidaire 7 cycle top loader drive belt     #1 at google
Frigidaire 7 cycle drive belt                       #1 at google
how to replace a frigidaire drive belt       #3 at google
Frigidaire drive belt                                 #4 at google
Frigidaire 7 top loader washing machine    bottom of page 6 which isn’t great but give me a couple of days

There’s some other ways to search but I was fairly stoke about the 3 word search at #4 and hopefully helpful for those at number 1.

I want to make some changes to the orig post to see how well I can post but there is no point other than whoever comes across it and it helps then I’m glad and also just showing myself how keyword placement, and some additional things I do will boost the ranking of a page. Then I can use these steps on other pages also.

If you find either one of these posts through a search give me a comment on what you searched for and what the page ranked. I would appreciate it.

How To Replace A Frigidaire Drive Belt.

So this weekend Melissa called me to the washing machine to point out that the agitator was no logger spinning on the washing machine. So after trying different spin cycles I came to the conclusion that we were dealing with a broken drive belt. I’m a genius…

Not really but for just an FYI, if the washing mean runs water, attempts the process, does not spin, makes no loud strange or grinding noise but you do hear a humming sound like a motor is running, it’s most likely the belt.  Anyways.

A quick search on Google for Frigidaire 7 cycle washing machine brought me nothing.  I came across several, and I mean several sites, that pointed me in several different directions with the exception to a single page that mentioned the Frigidaire 7 cycle top loader washing machine however I did find a few pages talking about the 9 and 12 cycle top loader machines. Good or bad? I’ll go with my hunch.

After finding these machines I simply went to the Frigidaire site and pulled up the manual for both machines and compared part numbers. Waaahlaaah. They were the same so I went with my gut, something that has been known to get me in trouble and started my search for the standard size 4L v drive belt.
After visiting, calling and being turned away from, I found the belt at an appliance part store. I stress the appliance part store because your local Home DePOT, Lowes or Sears does not sale appliance parts. Locate an appliance PARTS store and you’ll find your fairly common belt.

Okay. So the main reason I created this post, strategically used key search terms and made it a point to aim for the number one spot (*might not be there just yet) for Frigidaire 7 cycle top loader drive belt was so that if you are a fellow internet searcher in need of information regarding this washing machine or tips on how to remove the front panel so that you could replace this drive belt you wouldn’t have to go through the pain in the ass process I did.

Basically what you need is a standard 4L V-belt washer drive part #134511600 that is found on probably more than just the 9 and 12 cycle washing machine. (It is a common belt. Costs anywhere from $10 to $20 bucks – I paid $15 but did find one for $11) After you have retrieved the belt, are standing in front of the machine and cussing slightly under your breathe, lay the machine on its back and then you want to remove the 2 screws on the bottom of the front panel. After you have removed the screws you want to take something (flat head screw driver works) and pop the top part of the washer up. The top doesn’t completely come off but will fall back. There are 2 clips that are “kinda” snapped into place on each corner. Once you pop those, the top lifts up. Then you take the front panel and slide it down. It should then come off fairly easy.

The belt will slide in and the front roller will be spring loaded allowing you to secure the belt. After that you can replace the front panel buy placing the 4 clips, two on each side back into the slots and sliding the front panel up. Close the top and bang on each corner securing the tabs and wallah. You are done with the exception of testing your work and popping a cold one.

Now this isn’t as detailed and washing machine repair man quality instructions but if you are brave enough to do this then you are capable of figuring out what I am saying. I didn’t mean for this to be a step by step manual but after looking, not finding, and then getting pissed enough to try and break things I wanted to share with others what I couldn’t find. Plus this is a test to see that after I created this post, tweaked it as I tested, and made improvements if I couldn’t list number one in the SERPs for Frigidaire 7 cycle washing machine do it yourself repair. I doubt it will right off but maybe, just maybe one day I can help someone else. If so leave a comment or be sure to link to this page. It will be appreciated!

*As generic as they are, my keywords are ranking me in the top numbers for specific long tail key phrases. There are a couple of 3 word searches that bring my post up but I want to do better with some shorter terms against a fairly hard term considering my site really isn’t about selling, repairing or even washing clothes.

Sam Adams Summer Ale

sam adams summer ale

Sam Adams Summer Ale

Grade: A

Sam Adams describes it as a:

“Bright and citrusy, brewed with mysterious grains of paradise.  Samuel Adams Summer Ale is an American wheat ale. This summer seasonal uses malted wheat aswell as lemon zest and grains of paradise, a rare pepper from Africa first used as a brewing spice in the 13th Century to create a crisp and spicy flavor and body. The ale fermentation imparts a background tropical fruit note reminiscent of mangos and peaches. All of these come together to create a quenching, clean finishing beer perfect for those warm Summer days.”

And even though I can’t be as descriptively creative I can say that it was actually a really good beer. Maybe as my taste buds become more intelligent so can my creative mind. Anyways I give this beer a Grade A and two thumbs up.

What’s goin’ on…

Besides getting moved in and making the necessary adjustments I’ve actually been pretty busy behinds the scenes with the new site.

There’s been a good bit of rearranging, revamping, cleaning up, backing up, locking down and blah, blah, blah, that you as a reader don’t necessarily see but are important. I’ve worked with an out side company and added a Featured Sponsor spot which is pretty cool and exciting for me. Soon enough I’m going to add some other advertisement and sponsorship sections to help assist with the expenses that I encounter and to help my site and other projects that I am working on by networking with other companies and marketers along the way.

One of the most obvious is probably the Random Photo post* that I created which is a cool tool that automatically pulls pictures from Flickr that I take and upload from my Blackberry. It’s not the end all be all to the Photo page that I am working on but it’s going to be a treat to see what pictures I catch via the phone and spread instantly. Mainly to catch the unusual situation, like the family of mullets walking through Walmart or to keep friends on their toes but also to just let people know where I’m at and what I’m doing.

*edit: I went ahead and created a seperate page devoted to random photos. I was hoping that as I added new photos to the post it move the post back up to the top but it doesn’t. I could set it up to where it stays at the top but I don’t necessarily want that. Anyways I’m deleting the orig post and moving everything to the page. Check it out there instead.

Something else that I did was set the site up to be viewed via a mobile device a little cleaner. The mobile version strips down the graphics and only uses text so that the data size is kept to a minimum. If you have a device that can handle normal web viewing there’s an option to visit the site normally, just click the link to exit the mobile version.

Everything else is nothing anyone is probably to interested in right away. As I build the site I will create a technical section to explain more of what I do but for now I just want to get the overall feel going and start adding content. Soon enough I’ll talk about what I do at my 9 to 5, the status of my new web design business, Untangled Web Services, and also some of the projects I do online regarding online marketing and affiliate arbitrage. You’d be amazed at just how easy it is to develop a revolving income online.

Anyways I just thought I’d touch base, add some news and shout out to all. Now that the site is up, I’m probably only going to be on myspace, facebook, linkedin, etc. to check in and blast my news. For those in the know check out Twitter. It’s been around since 06 but has exploded over the past 6 months or so. You can follow me as BoWillisdotcom. That account is new as I was using TheOIProject (and still do but only for work.)

Anyways keep up, register, sign up for the email and RSS feed for auto updates and let me know what’s going on. PAAACE!

Not so much…

I’ve been slightly busy these past few days but I’m slowly getting around to settings things up. If you haven’t, take a quick glance at my last post and you will see it’s been a wild, fun and busy few minutes for me.

Anyways I am still setting up shop but wanted to add the RSS and email feed to the site so that anyone interested could get updates via email or their RSS reader whenever I add new stuff to the site. I’ve finally decided on a layout so now it’s time to get on it and start filling in the spaces. I’ll probably still change the main logo and the colors but overall this will be my layout. (or at least until I’m bored, can’t sleep and just code thirsty. Changing shit with wreckless abandonment!)

Thanks for hanging in there and soon enough I’ll get pictures of the big day up as well as all my girls and the new house.
